Bob Dylan: Property of Jesus

And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (John 8:32)

Bob Dylan, 2009

Bob Dylan turned 70 years old last week (May 24th).

Al Kasha, an Oscar winning songwriter who gave his life to Jesus Christ in 1978, was with him when Jewish-born Dylan received Christ as his savior during a Bible study. His awakening had a massive impact on his music.

In his 1980 album, “Saved”, he demanded to know, “Are You Ready?” (Audio and lyrics are here. Singing starts after introductions at 2:15 minutes.)

His Christmas album of 2009, “Tempest in the Heart”, is full of religious Christmas music, including “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”, “The First Noel”, and “Oh Little Town of Bethlehem”. And “Tempest”, his 2012 album follows a similar vein.

When asked last year if Bob Dylan is still a Christian, Mr. Kasha replied, “Absolutely. Anyone who can sit and write 34 songs about Jesus Christ believes in Jesus Christ.”

Happy birthday, Bob Dylan. Still the “Property of Jesus”. (Lyrics here)
