Women’s Ministry

Fall Women’s Bible Study Starts September 9th

She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. (Proverbs 31:26)

Fall Women’s Bible Study starts on September 9th at 6:30 pm in the BCBC Worship Center. All women are invited to join us.

This fall our study will be from Discerning the Voice of God*, written by Priscilla Shirer.

Ms. Shirer asks, “Do you feel that the ability to hear God’s voice is for other people and not for you? Is it only for people who lived in Biblical times?”

“Not at all! The God who loved you enough to die for you loves you enough to talk to you. And wherever you are in your spiritual walk, God will find a way to speak to you in a way you will understand.”

Join us as we get acquainted with “the Voice that has spoken from a fire and a cloud.” We will “hear” from some of the most well known Christians in history about how God speaks to them, and discover how we can discern the voice of God.

The Holy Spirit Shines Bright Through You

You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. (1 Thessalonians 5:5)

women jYou’re never without His light. The New Testament belivers carried the Spirit of God as they walked along the shores of Thessalonica. You carry that light today.

A new women’s bible study starts on Wednesday, February 4th, 6:30 to 8:00 pm. We will study Beth Moore’s Children of the Day — a study of 1 & 2 Thessalonians.

The Importance of Group Bible Study

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. (Proverbs 27:17)

Group fellowship is time well spent and as old as Christianity itself.

Prior to the printing press, personal quiet time was possible only for a privileged few. In fact, during the early centuries of the church overemphasis on personal (or “private”) worship was considered characteristic of the heresy of Gnosticism! For the vast majority, spiritual growth took place within the Christian community, as people gathered together to listen to and discuss God’s Word.

Today, nobody would discourage solitary Bible reading and contemplation. Christ is present when we are alone or in a group. However, there are benefits from group worship. In addition to Sunday worship services (11 am) and Sunday school (9:30 am), Bent Creek Baptist offers many opportunities for group fellowship and biblical learning.

Here’s a short list of benefits for group fellowship.

Strengthen each other’s faith

In his letter to the Romans, Paul taught us that when we see the faith in another believer, it encourages us in our own faith.

… that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith. (Romans 1:12)

Support

Small group members can provide a “safety net,” supporting each other in hard times.

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2)

Prayer

When people become connected emotionally, they are more open to praying for one another. Often, group members exchange prayer requests or become prayer partners.

Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him. (1 John 3:21-22)

Friendship

Many people, including Christians, lack close friends. When people get together in a small group, close friendships form and often remain long after the group ends.

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work:  If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10)

Remember, God doesn’t expect pastors and teachers to do all the ministering. He gave each of us gifts and talents to encourage, teach, and challenge each other. Small groups provide the perfect setting for Christian ministry, one to another.

In 2015 take advantage of opportunities for group worship and learning at Bent Creek Baptist Church. Consider this an invitation to all BCBC members and our Bent Creek neighbors in the community to participate.

New Women’s Bible Study Starts Wednesday

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. (Ephesians 4:29)

A new women’s bible study program will start on Wednesday, November 5th at 6:30 pm at the BCBC worship center.

Discussions will center on the Mary Kassian book titled Conversation Peace: The Power of Transformed Speech.

Ms. Kassian masterfully presents seven biblical principles to help women revolutionize their speech habits and positively avoid sharing gossip, throwing negative barbs, or snapping sarcastic replies throughout everyday life.

Improve your relationships by allowing God’s word to transform your heart.

Seven 20-minute video teaching sessions are provided plus viewer guides will facilitate group video sessions of this in-depth women’s Bible study.

Fellowship by the Lake

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. (2 Timothy 1:5)

This Tuesday, October 21st starting at 6 pm, the ladies of BCBC will hold their annual Women’s Night Out at the Biltmore Lake Clubhouse.

You’re invited to attend. The clubhouse is located at 80 Lake Drive, Candler.

“Cor9:24” Starts Again on September 3rd

As a church, we are all called to be followers of Christ! Too, we’re called to go and make disciples of Christ. Paul writes…

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.” (1 Corinthians 9:24-25 [thus the name “Cor9:24”])

On Wednesday and Sunday nights, Bent Creek Baptist will offer a variety of “small groups” to help you with your “core training.” They are open to everyone regardless of your affiliation with Bent Creek Baptist Church. These classes will connect and encourage you on the journey of discipleship!

Wednesday Night Groups (6:30-8:00)

Answering Hard Questions:

  • “Can we know truth?” “Does God exist?” “Can we trust the Bible?” The world has become a fast-paced race of ideas. How do we engage the many worldviews and questions that challenge our faith?
  • 1 Peter 3:15 says, “but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as Holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.”
  • In this class, we’ll explore the worldviews influencing our culture and learn how to engage these with the Gospel in ‘gentleness and respect.’

Beginning Spanish: (NOTE: this class begins on September 17th)

  • If you have ever had a desire to learn Spanish or brush up on your skills, here is your chance!
  • Being able to communicate in another language can open so many new doors to build relationships and share the love of Christ with a whole new people group.
  • You will learn basic-intermediate Spanish skills and have the opportunity to use them in conversational settings. No previous Spanish required! Any age is welcomed!
  • Ready? ¡Vamos!

Women’s Bible Study:

  • During the dark time of Judges where everyone did what was right in their own eyes, the book of Ruth stands out as a shining beacon of hope and redemption.
  • Join us for an 8-week in depth study of the short but packed book of Ruth. (Written and taught by Patty Nicholas)

Worship Team:

  • Psalm 95:2 says “Let us come before him with thanksgiving and worship him with music and song.”
  • Join the worship team as they enjoy fellowship and worship together! (And prepare to lead our church family in worship on Sunday morning.)

Awana:

  • Join a team that serves a vital ministry in the lives of our children (preschool to 6th grade).
  • You’ll help the kids learn the Bible (as well as learning more yourself)!

Encouragement 101:

  • Ever had a chance to visit and encourage someone in a nursing home?
  • This group will be focus on ministering to those in our church who are home-bound or in nursing homes.

Foundations – New Members Class:

  • Have you been attending Bent Creek and are now interested in becoming a member?
  • We will discuss Bent Creek’s core beliefs and practices as well as help you discover your spiritual gift!

Sunday Night Groups (Meet at 6:00)

Men’s Bible Study:

  • Men, this is a great opportunity to meet with other men and talk honestly about issues that we face on our journey of discipleship!
  • Join this group for stimulating Bible discussion and practical help from 1 John.

Youth Group (meets at Davis’ home):

  • Join other students (6th to 12th grade) for fun relationships and engaging time in the scriptures!

It will be the most rewarding time you’ll spend all week. Join us at Bent Creek Baptist Church on Sunday and Wednesday evenings beginning September 3rd. Childcare is available on Wednesday nights.
