The Arrival: Vacation Bible School 2014 at Bent Creek Baptist Church
This year we will follow Mary and Joseph as they travel to Bethlehem and the birth of Jesus.
Seventy-five children are pre-registered, and 89 BCBC church members have volunteered their time and talents to make this a rewarding experience for the children, many of whom will begin their journey in Christian faith.
If you haven’t registered your child for The Arrival, there’s still time. Bring your child (children) to the church tomorrow, Monday evening, at 6 pm and register for the remainder of the program. Each night is highlighted by live drama, with visits from angels, shepherds, and wise men. Farm animals, live music, and snacks ensure an enjoyable experience. Costumes will be provided for all the children and adults.
The Arrival runs this week from 6 pm to 8:30 pm Monday through Thursday.

Evening 1: VBS 2014 at Bent Creek Baptist Church
It was a beautiful evening, with beautiful children and Christian fellowship at BCBC.
Evening 2 of Bent Creek Baptist Church Vacation Bible School
We are so thankful that evening 2 of VBS 2014 was attended by 129 children and young people.
On Sunday during evening 1 of VBS we learned that God works in big ways when both Elisabeth the elderly wife of Zachariah became pregnant with the child who would one day be known as John the Baptist, and Mary became pregnant with Jesus.
But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.” (Luke 1:30)
This evening the drama continued and we learned that God works in unexpected ways.
For nothing is impossible with God. (Luke 1:37)
The story continues tomorrow, Tuesday, June 17 at 6:00 to 8:30 pm. There’s still time to register. Just come to Bent Creek Baptist Church by 6 pm on Wednesday and register on site.
Listen to the sounds of Bent Creek VBS.
Each member of the Bent Creek Baptist Church congregation appreciate the trust their parents have placed in us to teach about our Savior.
Evening 3: Sounds of VBS at Bent Creek Baptist Church
On Tuesday evening (June 17) we reached the half-way point of VBS 2014. The program tonight dramatized the trip to Bethlehem by Joseph and Mary only to find there was no room at the inn.
Each year for the past 5 years, Ms. Chris Jennings (VBS creator and director) has labored, starting each January, to prepare child-friendly, rewarding programs that teach children important lessons from the Bible.
On the audio recording below Chris, Pastor Tommy, and Erin West (BCBC Children’s Director) share their reasons for participating in this outreach program and the benefits for the children living in our community. This is followed by Liza Jennings leading the children in song.
VBS Evening 3: And She Brought Forth Her Firstborn Son
As VBS 2014 moved to its third evening, we focused on this passage in Luke 2:7.
And she brought forth her firstborn Son and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Parents, Join Your Children at VBS at Bent Creek Baptist Church
Parents of children participating in VBS 2014 are invited to join them on Thursday evening — the final night of VBS 2014 at Bent Creek Baptist Church. In preparation, Chris Jennings on this audio summarizes the first 4 days of VBS 2014.
And the story God tells is found in Luke 2:8-15.
8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
We hope to see you on Thursday evening at 6:00 pm.
Day 4: VBS at Bent Creek Baptist Church
The children are our future. They grow up very quickly. So, it’s important to take every opportunity as parents and as church members to train and teach them the truth of God’s Word.
VBS 2014 was blessed with 1933 children who participated. We thank the parents and guardians for trusting us to teach their children about Jesus.
Read the body language in the photos below. Look at the joy and involvement in the eyes of the children. Also, see the energy and commitment of the adults as they teach lessons from the Bible.
BCBC Vacation Bible School 2014: Beth Shiloh
Rabbi Andy Meyerson and other members of Congregation Beth Shiloh Messianic Jewish Synagogue in Asheville participated in VBS 2014.
Here, Rabbi Andy shares his thoughts and observations on VBS.
Thanks and Appreciation to Everyone Who Contributed to the Success of VBS 2014
133 Children Attend VBS 2014 at Bent Creek Baptist Church
Special thanks to Ms. Chris Jennings. Again, she made it all happen.
Each year, for the past five years, Chris begins in January to conceptualize and develop an original program. With help from Pastor Tommy and Pastor Sam the content comes together. Then, volunteers (more than 80) contribute their skills, time, and donations to ensure that VBS is a spiritually rewarding journey for the children.
Thanks also to the parents who cared enough to permit their children to participate.
Bless you all.
VBS: 2014: It’s all about the children. See you next year.
