VBS Day 5: Satisfy Your Physical and Spiritual Needs

And this is his commandment: We must believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he commanded us. (1 John 3:23)

Jesus feeds the 5000.

Aside from the resurrection, the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000 is the only miracle recorded in all four Gospels. He began with just “five barley loaves and two fish,” borrowed from a boy’s lunch.

It was a lesson in the limits of human endeavor, and an act of love by our Savior.

Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many? (John 6:9).

Philip immediately calculated the cost and found it was an impossible task. He forgot to factor in the will of Jesus. The Lord’s approach was different. He bypassed all human effort and did the impossible. With that Jesus feed 5,000 men. Many Bible scholars believe the actual number of people fed that day could have been 15,000 to 20,000.

And taking the five loaves and the two fish he looked up to heaven and said a blessing and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And he divided the two fish among them all. (Mark 6:41)

God easily multiplies our gifts. We must never forget that God wants to meet our needs. He loves us.

Expect God to do far beyond what can be imagined.

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, (Ephesians 3:20)

God not only wants to meet the needs of his children, but he wants to lavish his children with spiritual blessings

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. (Psalm 23:5)

This week at VBS has been a blessing for all of us at Bent Creek Baptist Church. We cherish the opportunity to bring the love of the Lord to the children. And we are humbled that five of the children who attended VBS 2015 chose to come to the Lord. For them and for all the children and families we pray…

Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met” (Matthew 6:33 The Message)
